About Tom Baxter
Tom lives in Hobart and works in the Tasmanian School of Business & Economics at the UTAS Sandy Bay campus.
Growing up with his father a vet and mother a social worker fostered the need to care for animals and people. Family bushwalks around Tasmania led to a deep appreciation of our beautiful island.
He loves spending time in Tasmania’s great outdoors with family and friends (bushwalking, cycling, jogging or skiing).
Tom has worked as a lawyer with Dobson, Mitchell & Allport (Sept 1997 – Dec 1999) and then the Australian Government (Jan 2000 – May 2003).
He has lectured in the Tasmanian School of Business & Economics at the University of Tasmania since June 2003.
He is a Fellow of:
- The Governance Institute of Australia.
- The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
Tom has served on various voluntary boards and management committees.
Tom holds a Master of Laws from the Australian National University and a Bachelor of Economics and Laws (Honours) from UTAS.
His secondary education was at The Friends’ School where he was elected Head Boy for 1991 and came 9th in Tasmanian secondary results that year.
In 1990 he won the Tasmanian Lions Youth of the Year competition.
Tom attended Mt Stuart Primary School (Dux of School) and Sandy Bay Infant School.
